I feel like inspiration can come from anywhere, you just have to be open to absorbing it all in. Keeping yourself open to new ideas and new ways of looking at things keeps your designs fresh.
I'm really interested in the ideas of the future. What are they doing? how do the live? What are their lives like? and How does that effect their fashion choices? Are they wearing clothes simply for ornamentation? Are clothes for protection from the elements? Did they find new ways to produce fabrics? It's so easy to be inspired when there is so much for my mind to play with.
I love old movies, and I'm really into the Mexican holiday "Dia de los Muertos" when I found this picture I fell in love with it. I have had it for so long in my computer I have no idea where it came from, but it has been a huge source of inspiration for me. Quite a bit of my designs are influenced by my heritage. I am half Mexican, and I feel really close to my roots. Marilyn Monroe is one of my favorite actresses. She was classy, and funny, and not afraid to be herself. Those are all traits I aspire to hold.
I have a bit of an obsession with owls. I take a lot of inspiration from their coloration, the way they move, their shapes. I love them.
Cathedrals are so beautiful, all of the work and thought that goes into them is really impressive. I could spend a week in St. Peter's Basilica and not see everything that makes this building so beautiful. Being a Catholic woman, I feel God calling to me to be a designer. God put me on this Earth to create beauty with my designs. When I go to Mass at Church I have a spiritual connection with God and my heart can be opened.
I think that I will start ending each blog with a verse from the Bible to inspire you as well.
But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deuteronomy 4:29
