If you look in the mirror...

I was looking through some of my fellow fashionista's blogs and I was really entertained by their topics, one topic made me laugh so hard I almost fell out of my chair. I love when people think they look fantastic, but really all they have done, is break a billion fashion laws!! I can't quite figure out how people look in the mirror in the morning before they leave the house and see the awfulness that is their outfit, but think they look fantastic!!

When you look in the mirror and you notice wearing a shirt that doesn't cover your midsection, and you have jeans that are too low and too tight (giving you a muffin top..... it might by time to change your outfit!

When you look in the mirror and you notice you are wearing brown shoes with black pants....it might be time to change your outfit!

When you look in the mirror and you notice you are wearing a shirt that is button up, but the only thing keeping your shirt buttoned is the grace of God.... it might be time to change your outfit.

When you look in the mirror and you notice you are wearing any shirt ever made by Ed Hardy .... it might by time to change your outfit.

When you look in the mirror and you notice you can see your panty-line....it might be time to change you outfit!

When you look in the mirror and you notice you are wearing white socks with black shoes/pants.....it might be time to change your outfit
It's not hard to follow fashion rules, it's not hard to look like you don't own a mirror....How would you rather look.

what is happening in my studio these days...

I have two main places where I work on my designs, I have the living room of my apartment, and the fashion design room of Scoular Hall. My apartment has 3 sewing machines, a large stack of brown paper in the corner, and about 20 billion pattern pieces in the drawer under the couch. I spend so much time in my living room sewing i sleep on my couch some nights, so I can wake up and sew some more. I like working in Scoular hall, because i can hang out with friends while I sew, and sew what they are working on, also the lighting is much better. I stay pretty busy so having two places to work is pretty nice. Right now I'm working on a dress for Fashion Design. It's inspired by the art movement Futurism. I took my inspiration from a painting by Carlo Carra called The Funeral of the Anarchist Galli. I really loved the movement and the colors of the painting, and found a printed fabric that really embodied the painting.

These are my pattern pieces that I have laid out cut out. the beginning stages of my dress.

This dress took a lot longer than I thought it would, but it turned out pretty great.
I would love some feedback if you're interested.

Stories and Themes 2012

I find that I am inspired by many different things, so my designs tend to range. lately I have been inspired by many things relating to architecture. Types of buildings' structures, elements of design used inside buildings, including the colors and textures used inspire me. I love every day items that are a little bit out of the ordinary, like shoes covered in feathers, or a chair with a funky pattern. I did some story boards to show some of my inspirations

I need your creative help, with any thoughts, or notes, or ideas. which one was your favorite? which one seemed more put together? which one do you think i should explore further?

Hungry for fashion

There's nothing quite like a highly anticipated movie to get one excited. With the new release of the movie The Hunger Games, I think it's safe to say that people will be dying to look like their favorite characters. Think about it, after Harry Potter you couldn't turn the corner with out seeing someone with a costume, or a t-shirt; same thing with Twilight. If I see one more "Team Jacob" shirt I think I might go crazy. Hunger Games will be no exception. The books already have a strong following, they are exciting and quite the page turners. If the movies live up to the hype there is no doubt in my mind that they will create an insane style change.

How great would it be to see a whole bunch of Effies, all dressed in pink, with crazy sleeves and giant accessories?!?!

I can see girls everywhere wearing their hair in the braid that Katniss has, and guys dressed as the hot Gale with vests, trying to shoot arrows.

I'm not sure how I would feel if guys star shaving their beards into weird shapes, but it could be interesting.

Girls will dress like bad-asses. They will look like they can kick your butt, instead of wearing dresses that barely cover theirs.

One shoulder red dresses will become the new "it" item I believe. Every girl will want to look they are the "girl on fire"

I see everyone sporting a District Twelve shirt of some kind.

Men will sport suits with a twist like Cinna with a slight print.

I'm so looking forward to a futuristic style of dress that will undoubtedly follow the release of what seems to be an EPIC movie.

Fashionistas of Denton

People watching is one of my favorite activities. I love seeing everyone's personal style and how they choose to express themselves. I sat in one of my favorite spots outside of the student union to spot people with their own personal styles. The day started out uneventful. most people were in jeans and sweatshirts. the occasional passerby would have an article of interest, but not enough to get me excited. most people have that one item that stands out in their closet that they love to wear all the time. Only a small amount of people have an interesting closet. This small group of people love to show off their personal style, don't necessarily follow the trends, and have fun with their fashion. These are the people I wanted to photograph. I happened on a few as they scurried off to class, but some were in my backyard (my fashion design classes).

What inspires me....

I feel like inspiration can come from anywhere, you just have to be open to absorbing it all in. Keeping yourself open to new ideas and new ways of looking at things keeps your designs fresh.
I'm really interested in the ideas of the future. What are they doing? how do the live? What are their lives like? and How does that effect their fashion choices? Are they wearing clothes simply for ornamentation? Are clothes for protection from the elements? Did they find new ways to produce fabrics? It's so easy to be inspired when there is so much for my mind to play with.

I love old movies, and I'm really into the Mexican holiday "Dia de los Muertos" when I found this picture I fell in love with it. I have had it for so long in my computer I have no idea where it came from, but it has been a huge source of inspiration for me. Quite a bit of my designs are influenced by my heritage. I am half Mexican, and I feel really close to my roots. Marilyn Monroe is one of my favorite actresses. She was classy, and funny, and not afraid to be herself. Those are all traits I aspire to hold.

I have a bit of an obsession with owls. I take a lot of inspiration from their coloration, the way they move, their shapes. I love them.

Cathedrals are so beautiful, all of the work and thought that goes into them is really impressive. I could spend a week in St. Peter's Basilica and not see everything that makes this building so beautiful. Being a Catholic woman, I feel God calling to me to be a designer. God put me on this Earth to create beauty with my designs. When I go to Mass at Church I have a spiritual connection with God and my heart can be opened.

I think that I will start ending each blog with a verse from the Bible to inspire you as well.
But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.
